Owner Builder SA

Hello Owner Builder in South Australia 🙂

Welcome to The Owner Builder Club – here to simplify the process for you.

But where to begin?

Is owner building even for you?

If you're at the very early stage in the process, now's the time to think through if owner building is for you.

  • can you afford it?
  • do you need finance?
  • how does finance work for owner building?
  • do you have the time?
  • how about the skills?

If you need help answering these questions, CLICK HERE to find out more about our  short online course that by the end, will have you going confidently in the right direction for YOU.

How about the type of approvals that are required?

In SA, one of the responsibilities of an owner builder is to obtain a Development Approval. The Development Approval is issued after a Development Plan Consent and a Building Rules Consent have been obtained.

The Development Plan Consent and Development Approval is in most cases, issued by your local Council.

The Building Rules Consent can be either your local Council or a private Certifier.

Do you need to do an Owner Builder course?

The rules to become an Owner Builder in SA are different compared to other states.

It’s not compulsory to complete an Owner Builder course or a White Card course.

Lucky you!

However. As an Owner Builder, you ARE required by law to meet the same legislative requirements relating to building work as licensed builders.

And that's massive.

So you pretty much need to think and act like a builder even though you're not a builder.

Because of this, we think paying to do a short course is a pretty small investment considering you're about to make one of the biggest investments in your life.

The best part? We've done the research for you.

We critiqued 12 owner builder course providers across Australia and after a stringent selection process, we partnered with Absolute Education.
